There are a wide variety of recreational activities including three golf courses, horse riding, sailing, fishing, walking including the West Island Way.
The island's attractions include Mount Stuart House and Gardens, Ascog Fernery, Rothesay Castle, St Blane's Chapel and the ever popular sandy beaches at Ettrick Bay and Scalpsie with its seal colony. There are many events during the year including ButeFest, the Cattle Show and Highland Games. All of these combine to offer a good quality of life.
