The island is served by two ferry services. The principal ferry service operates from Rothesay to Wemyss Bay (crossing approximately 35 minutes) thereafter by road or rail to Glasgow Airport (approximately 45 minutes) and Glasgow (approximately 1 hour). Glasgow-Prestwick Airport is approximately 45 minutes by road and approximately 1 hour by train (changing at Paisley). The second ferry is at the north end of the island connecting it with the Cowal Peninsula. It operates from Rhubodach to Colintraive (crossing approximately 5 minutes).
Rothesay’s harbour provides mooring facilities with its popular pontoons and the formation of a marina at neighbouring Port Bannatyne Bay (2 miles from Rothesay) has begun.
